What Happened:

In 2017, Oakland Police Officer Danny Sy Chor ran a red light downtown and struck motorcyclist Elliott Van Fleet, costing Van Fleet his right leg and leaving him with severe, permanent injuries. Despite the devastating harm caused, Officer Chor faced no meaningful accountability – he remains employed by the Oakland Police Department to this day, and Van Fleet says Chor lied in his deposition, denying he had run the red light.
